The strap came off the back peg while I was standing up without my hands on the guitar. My Viper fell butt first to the ground. It hit the back peg and bounced into the air. I caught it before it could hit again. The damage done is that the thick finish around the peg chipped off. It is in a 3/4 circle around the peg with the widest point about 1/4 inch out from the peg. The deepest part is about as thick as a penny. This got me wondering what is this red coating on my viper made of? How thick is it (this injury to my guitar did not reach to the wood)? Can this be repaired and how? This had to happen right before my new Gibson is due to arrive. How do I let my Viper know it is still my number one? This guitar survived without a mark a roll over accident in 1981 when it was pack in the back of a pick up truck. The case was scruffed up and needed a couple of hindge pens but the guitar was still like new. Need I say I threw away the old strap?

Tough as nails but not a good material to work over. My condolances to all. The first one hurts, but so do all the other ones! I am starting to appreciate the tung oiled bodies.

Small price to pay for the added protection. Sorry, I know how you feel. I stupidly raised one of my mint electrics into the blades of a whirling fan last summer. Put a nasty nick on the back of the headstock......wanted to cry!
