Which non-cutaway, deep-bowl 14 fret Adamas makes the best sound?

| I've got very attached to the full body/deep bowl set up with the Ute. I've also been watching a lot of Larry Coryell and John McLaughlin playing together with LC playing a Custom Legend and JM playing what is either a Legend or a Deluxe Balladeer (both fullbody/deepbowl -it's from 1979) and the sound is great. Very little difference in the plugged in sound (down to differing techniques) but there is a short part where they are warming up backstage and the difference in tone is really noticeable. There are also a couple of old (transferred from video) AdM dvds where he is playing solo and he uses a full body Custom Legend to great effect.
So I was curious if there is an accepted best of the best in that department. |

Come on, you've played the U681 and THAT is as good as it gets in a non-wood guitar. Slothead owners will say the slot is better and maybe they are right (I have no way to know). But the U681 is tops of the Adamas line these days as far as I'm concerned. The comparable wood topped Ovation is the FD14. Nothing else in the line can touch it. Some folks don't like non-cutaways or 12 fretters or wide necks. That's fine. 1537 is really nice. But for sound, nothing in the line can touch the FD14. It's an ugly little plain jane bastard, but it sounds like an angel ...

FD14, then a tie between the 1537 and the CL30 depending on the type of sound you wanted. 1537 is warmer/woodier while CL30 is bright/articulate. |

Location: SoCal | Ok, it may just be that I've got strings on it that aren't quite right for it, but right now, my 1537 is taking a back seat, sound-wise, to my 87 Colletors. Both have Elixir phospher bronze lights on them, but while the 87C sounds like "buttah" when strummed, the 1537 just doesn't come together and sounds to crashy? I'm thinking that the 15337 just demands mediums on it and as soon as I can find Elixir ph/br's in medium, I'll try them. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | What's "crashy". My 1537 sounds mellow, with a lot of bass. I don't know what strings were on there when I bought it from Noah, but they seem as light as I'd want to go. They are about due for a change to Adamas 1717s. |

Besides the pre-amp and the bearclaw spruce, are there any other differences between the 30th Anniversary and a regular vintage 70s or 80s Custom Legend that have a direct impact on tone?
