Location: North Carolina | I have an 1869 natural top I bought new in early '95. I recently got involved with a projet for which I installed a GK-2 on the guitar using double faced tape. (works fine)
The question relates to how long I can leave the pickup in place before I have to start worrying about having a light spot under the covered areas. The instrument is always in its case when not being played, so light exposure is minimal. I don't know if top darkening is something that progesses in a linear fashion or slows down with age. (I once removed a pickguard from a five year old Martin and it looked ridiculous.) The pickup's been in place for about 6 months.
Any thoughts? |

Location: South of most, North of few | I think I would worry more about the reaction of the glue on the tape with the finish, than any "fade". Even the people that make those clear "static cling" pick guards have in the instructions not to leave it on when you are not using it. |

Yeah, I wish I'd gotten the black finish when I bought the 1869. I got it on my C2079LX, and it looks great against the abalone inlay. |

Location: south east Michigan | Yes.. I will admit that bling and black go very will together. But it's a crime to hide the fantastic wood grain of a AAA grade top.
Of course, with my UTE, I went against the grain. :cool: |
