Hi, its the new guy again....You've all been so helpful about my warranty question, i thought i'd throw this out there. I'm soon going to be looking for an Ovation classical, acoustic/electric......as soon as i sell my 24 yr old exc. cond. Alvarez-Yairi classical. As of now, i know nothing about the different Ovation classical models and features. I'd like to find an older one, 70's or 80's, with basic electronics. Does anyone know where i can get info. on the different models, such as, cedar or spruce top? ebony or rosewood fingerboards? models with a slimmer neck than the usual wide classical guitars? price range for a nice one with no cracks? I tried one out back in the late 80's, electric, with cutaway i believe - wish i would have bought it. I know alot of you guys are experts, any info. you'd be willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Thx, JP

ive got A '83 1624 COUNTRY ARTIST that i maybe looking to get rid of. 1 7/8 at the nut. thats a tad slimmer than a classical,14 fret to the body.non cutaway,fet-3 vol/tone stacked knob preamp. 1 finish crack was repaired on this one and has some light scratches in the rossette. i think it has a spruce top but not too sure, id have to look it up...jason

I think all the CAs had spruce tops. Look at the Ovation website discontinued models for info. The 1713s had cedar. 1763 were cutaways. Spanish pine is basically the same as cedar. Do a search for classic on this site and you might find a lot of info, too.

Does anyone know where i can get info. on the different models, such as, cedar or spruce top? ebony or rosewood fingerboards? Here and at the french guy's website, he has some old catalogs, also the german distributor has some catalogs. Of course, you can search ovationguitars.com.

models with a slimmer neck than the usual wide classical guitars? That would be the CA.

price range for a nice one with no cracks? Do search on ebay for current prices, I bought one on ebay 5 years ago for $325. You'll be hard pressed to find one without finish cracks.

with cutaway: The ones without a cutaway sound better.

Plugged in the you won't find anything better than the CA. Unplugged, it's a the thin side, but tolerable with a tone that'll grow on you.
