First of all, posting a very straight forward sensible request that we not make terribly abstract or "distract" responses is the perfect means to flush out those, like me, that end up making alot of just those types of comments.

So here is a topic to voice yourselves.

Is this behavior actually a gift?

In 1993, Thom Hartmann proposed that the “condition” of ADHD is actually a gift, a leftover of hunters in a farmer’s world. According to his explanation, the problem lies more with our current cultural expectations and with our schools (designed by and for “farmers” – those who plan ahead tend their fields carefully) than with the child whose brain, for whatever reason, is more like that of the hunter:
· scanning the environment (for prey)
· the ability fall into a dream-like state for long periods (during down periods)
· the ability to become suddenly hyperfocused and thrive on danger and excitement (the hunt)
The modern hunter “… is hunting in a metaphorical sense. Hunting for excitement. Hunting for the prize: the cure for cancer or the truth in the theory of global warming. Hunting for the mental or physical stimulation to mimic the hunt of our ancestors.

I say live for the breakaway solo riff...

In my family, during 'gatherings,' there are always a double fistful of conversations going at once. Even if there are only five people in the room. People drop in on a conversation/topic, make a few choice comments, maybe steer the topic a little, then drift off to the next interesting subject.

This message board shows a lot of the same dynamics as my family (good and bad), so the OT replies, thread drift, smarmy comments and 'inside jokes' just seem like a natural thing to me. If they don't to you, well...hey, Jeff is this that shiny thing you were looking at?

Thus spake Crusterthustra.

Have you ever heard a trivia question asked and you can't rest until you have googled the correct answer and shared it?

Do you know the difference between Teal, Turquoise, Telamarine and Aqua?

Have you a running memory of every "Our Gang" and "The Three Stooges" episode?

Do you have an overwhelming urge to correct others, regardless if its in a GC or a Board Meeting, over the real differences between hand-laid fiberglass bowls, Lyrachord and Lyrachord GS?

I'll sort your guitar parts while you go over my Tax Return! ;)

As a 9th grade drop-out, I asked...
Why must I do homework, if I get A's on the tests?
Why did I only get a C+, if I get A's on the tests?
Why must I be at every class, Hell, I could teach the class.
Why would you want me to take Amphetamines if you want me to slow down and listen?
(I would listen, if you had something interesting to say.)

But that was long ago. I'm alright now!
So now I'm gonna watch TV, play on my computer, play my guitar, and make dinner...
All at once.
Really!

Woodrow, how would you classify a person who listens to people talk, then something sparks an idea... So he thinks and drifts away, and returns to the conversation with terrific insight, only to find the rest of the room has moved on to the next, or the next, topic by then? That's me. By the time I find something useful to say, nobody has a clue what I'm saying... Ooh, a penny!

Two biscuits are in the oven. One turns to the other and says "Boy, it sure is hot in here." The other biscuit looks at him and replies "Wow! A talking biscuit!"

Anyway, I'm not sure I'm a very good listener. I'm pretty sure I'm not.

Captain,
You have gifts that you have shared with us all.
Your expressions are deeper and a lot more complicated, besides coming out in a media most don't fully comprehend.
If I asked a question I would be missing something if I didn't wait for your answer!
