My 1771LX comes already setup for Dunlop "Dual Design" straplocks.... right?

If so, thats great!

My new strat has just standard posts. Does anyone have any experience with the Schaller version of straplocks? If so, whats better between Schaller and Dunlop?

I prefer the Schallers. I've switiched all of my O's to that brand. I prefer the pull release rather than the push and I really don't like the "C" clip that holds the strap piece in place. Schaller uses a machine nut which I find easier.

Here's what I like better about Schaller: the "pulling point" of the strap is closer to the guitar than with Dunlops. If you could picture straplocks where the strap attaches 6"from the guitar, imagine the stress on the guitar at that point.
Following that principle, I think the closer the strap attaches the better.

I like the dual design Dunlops cause you can use a strap without locks on it more securely. The original Dunlops and the Schallers don't use flared enough studs on the guitar to make me feel comfortable using a non-locked strap.

Both are good. Since I'm in the ovation world, all my guitars have dunlop dual design.

I even installed them on my 1976 1624CA. Never had a problem.

Generally, I just use the strap lock on the upper bout, while using the button on the tail. Since I've installed them I've never dropped a guitar.

Plus if your only using half, on the upper bout, you can spread them to your other guitars.

It's a pretty rare person that has a problem with the strap button on tail, it seems only to be a problem on the upper bout / neck area.

I have Dunlops on all the O's and Gibsons (except the proto), Schallers on all the Fenders. Both seem to work just fine. Cliff's idea of using leather gaskets to quiet the rattling with the Dunlops worked great!

I have Schaller straplocks on my electrics, and interchange straps because they all wear at the same height. No strap locks at all on my acoustics, I wear these higher, and they all hang at different levels due to size, bowl depth, etc., so if I use 1 strap for different guitars, I just use a different strap hole for the lower pin. Never dropped a guitar though, because I don't engage in any crazy antics while playing acoustic.

Lots of good points here. I like the Schaller attachment better than the Dunlop, but if you want the option of going without straplocks, the Dunlops are better.
