Happy Valentine's Day

Take a moment of silence for dear Al Capone
After all it was he who made Valentine's day a household word in 1929

Paper moon, paper heart
Pink balloon, work of art
Al capone, Bugs Moran
Valentine's day

Bootleg gin, porkpie hat
Dew drop inn, dirty rat
Through the heart, cupid's dart
Valentine's day

Day to repay the one that you love
Gentlemen take off your hats as i speak thereof
Just a brief break from the push and the shove
We may go a few rounds without boxing gloves

Land your punch, i stand my ground
We break for lunch and a second round
We set them up, we knock them down
Valentine's day

Me and you, you and him
Him and her, us and them
We keep score, love as war
Valentine's day

I lost my teeth, i lost my hair
I lost my mind, you don't care
Love is war, all is fair
On valentine's day

I'm in a Valentine's Humbug mood right now, to be honest!

At the risk of sounding teenage (I'm 29) and "Emo" (whatever the heck that actually means!), I kind of like this girl who is almost too gorgeous for words...

We went out a couple of times in Jan. Didn't work out. Shame, but these things happen - all's fair in Love and War, and apparently 'it wasn't me it was her'. Hmm. Harsh, but potentially fair. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt - I've only paraphrased that so it makes sense here the actual words were the timeless "It's not you, it's just the place I'm in right now".

Could have sent her flowers today, but seemed a little bit like I would be stalking her (particularly as I know it's a no-go). Some swine did send her flowers and choccies, and I'm very jealous! If I find out who he is, I may have to use sarcasm and even irony at him. I'm not the most physical of people, you see.

I'm going home for steak, Ovation, rockabilly, and Dr Pepper therapy [I don't drink, or there would definitely be whiskey involved...]

Sorry for the rant. I'm usually quite relaxed about this sort of thing, but it's very rare I get butterlies for anyone, and even rarer that I act on it. There's no rationalising this in my head or heart as she doesn't even know who the guy is and probably won't follow it up anyway, but that's not the point!

Give me 12 hours and I'll be over it. No worries. Just needed to get that out of my system so that I don't inadvertantly rant at someone over here on the Island that knows her!!

JB

Humbug! Flippin HallMark holidays! I'm not usually that cynical. Honest.

Dear Rockabilly Humbug;

". . "It's not you, it's just the place I'm in right now" . ."

It's you.
Trust me.

The way I see it, you have two choices:

A.) Forget her and let her waste her time w/Mr. Choccies (probably plays a Taylor) till she comes around and realizes what a total wanker he really is.

3.) Chloroform and a car with a decent-size boot.

I had to travel to Dallas this week, so my wife wasn't too happy. I sent the flowers, chocolate, balloons, etc..... It'll have to do.

Let me add:
It sounds like you waited too long, you gotta pounce on them like you're a caveman, you will know within 5 seconds what she truely feels and after the 5 seconds if it doesn't work out, just say oops, sorry. In some ways, animals are smarter than people. Certainly less bull.

Kudos to Mr. Buffett:

Bimbo limbo is where I've been
I know you know that it's wearing me thin
The times are changin' and it's about time
I'm rearranging all the guilt in my mind

Chorus
I'm looking for a smart woman
in a real short skirt
Smart woman who knows how to flirt
Smart woman got a mind of her own
Smart woman that'll take me homw
Take me home

I'm not your macho kind of guy
But I can be so when I'm feeling shy
Hey baby where'd you get your good looks
Ooh babe I want to carry your books

Chorus
I'm looking for a smart woman
in a real short skirt
Smart woman show knows how to flirt
Smart woman got a mind of her own
Smart woman that'll take me home
Take me home

Beauty and brains (beauty and brains)
Best of both worlds (best of both worlds)
Think I can change
If you'll be my be my be my girl

Chorus
I'm looking for a smart woman
in a real short skirt
Smart woman sho knows how to flirt
Smart woman got a mind of her own
Smart woman that'll take me home
Take me home

Cats and Kittens.

Thanks to you all. THIS is why I love this place. This has given me the biggest laugh since my last gig, just right before I head to bed.

You guys rock!

Jeff:- you're safe, fella. I know you didn't know I was after her!

an4340 re, pouncing:- Maybe this rockabilly has got to my head, and I'm too rooted in the '50s, but... On a first date? Good grief... ;)

sums up the advice I got from one of my colleagues:- "Just take her out and get her drunk, man". No matter how you travel, there's only so many people to go round! Fantastic!

jb,
How bout this for a humbug. It's Valentines Day, I'm snowed in. Can't go anywhere. My girlfriend lives 30 miles away. And it's my birthday.

Oh, and Cliff:- I'm aware it's most definitely me, and I'd like to take option A) please. Seems easier in the long run!

Bill- sounds a rubbish situation. Hope you have a happy birthday despite all that. I think that you win in the humbug stakes!
