Yesterday I played a new Ovation Glen Campbell Model 1627 40th Anniversary guitar at Guitar Center. It blew me away... This guitar sounded GREAT both plugged and unplugged and was offered at $1369 (plus 8.5% sales tax here in Calif). What can you tell me about this model? Did I just happen to play a great one, or are they all like this? Is GC's price reasosnable or should I be able to do better? Please express all thoughts about this guitar, both pro and con. Many thanks! 6

I was prepared not to like these guitars, thinking that they should have built as a reissue the GC Deluxe Balladeer shiny bowl. I still wish they'd do a reissue of the GCDB, but the 1627 is a great guitar. Good acoustic sound, great plugged in. Easy to play. Very comfortable. I'm glad I have one.

I loved EVERYTHING about this guitar except: 1) Lousy unplugged tone 2) Way to much piezo quack plugged-in tone It brought tears to my ears to sell it, but that's what I did about 5 or 6 years ago. I mean I LOVED the appearance and neck on this axe! I've been trying to find a new one with updated electronics that meets my sound requirements, but to no avail. It was quite by accident I walked into SFGC and saw this Model 1627 sitting on a stand. I almost didn't pick it up because I figured if they used the vintage electronics it would not sound good enough to my ears. I was WRONG!!! It sounded great both plugged and unplugged. I have no doubt I'll own one of these in the hopefully not-too-distant future. If I'd had the cash I would have grabbed this one in a heartbeat. It's good to know that most of you feel the quality control/tone on this model is consistently great. Many thanks to all for your thoughts/help! Bill
