I have a 1868-C with an OP24 and when I try to go wireless, I get intermittent squeals and pops. I don't have any problems when using a guitar cord. And I don't encounter any problems going wireless with my other O's, but they all have something other than an OP24. Any ideas out there of what the problem is?

Maybe a weak battery in the OP24. Have you changed it recently?

Maybe a bad ground/shielding in the guitar/OP24 is letting the transmitter frequency in.

....I can't understand the attraction of wireless systems

....much easier (and cheaper) to use a high quality lead.

Some of us more graceful folks tend to trip over our own "leads". I also have an on-going nightmare of someone else in the band tripping over my cord.

Thanks for the input. I replaced the battery and the problem remained. So, I'll have the grounding(or lack of) situation checked out.

My partner Rick plays with a wireless (I'm STILL trying t'figure out "WHY"), and "pops" are usually an indication of a low battery in the transmitter, or something blocking/interfering with the wireless signal.

I would make sure that you use a fresh battery each time, and that the receiver is in a prominent location to ensure a good signal . . .

Wireless is always prone to an occasional drop out; It's just what they do. I guess those would be the pops. The squeals are something else; maybe static electricity? Tried playing on a rubber mat or other locations? Let us know when you find out.

Sheilding can be done with aluminum foil.

I'm thinking that because I have no problems when playing my other guitars, that the source of the problem is somewhere in this particular guitar. Rick, explain how I might do the shielding thing.

Are any other wireless devices being used in the area? We use a lot of wireless equipment, and occasionally someone will show up with something new that has a conflicting frequency/signal. That happened at a benefit concert I went to last month. We were not informed of what kind of equipment they had on hand with their sound system, and I brought my wireless unit. When I plugged in there was a nasty squeal and I then noticed they were using all wireless mics. Of course my wireless unit was conflicting with another one, so I just used a cord and direct box which fixed the problem.

I think he just wants to be able to run away from you if he screws up. Those smacks in the back of the head look painful!

I don't know for an op-24, but for a tele you just put aluminium foil around the pick up cavity and leave a bit that touches a piece of metal that's attached to a ground.

Yeah, I think that's your squeal. I used a wireless rig once that impinged on the frequency of a wireless mic, and that's what we got. BTW, you also can get pops and drop-outs if you cross in front of a mic stand.

Are you talking about the banjo or the jiffypop hat?
