She'll be making a trip directly to the mothership for a complete check-up. 1537 Does anyone know the proper procedure for sending a guitar back for work? Do I need a work order# or something? Happy as a clam!

She should land at the Mothership on Friday. She's definitely going to be a player not an art installation, even though they are soo good lookin'. I'm curious about everyone's thoughts about the 1537's top. The discussions lately about 1537's being refurbished with new tops, I am concerned that without the original's reinforced upper bout, the difference in the quality of sound would be significant? With the unanimous agreement here of the magic of the 1537, I would be very reluctant to have a new top put on.

My tobacco burst was the best sounding 1537 (out of 5) that I owned. Tuppy will attest to the fact that the sunburst 1537's just seem to sound better.

The dents in the binding are something I would be able to live with if that makes a difference in the ability to keep the old top. At the price you paid though, you're bound to have a lot of options open to you on what they could do. Congratulations again!

Replacing a top on an old guitar solely because of asthetics totally defeats the point of getting a vintage guitar in the first place. Wayne

I kept the original neck (a piece of art) and had a whole new body put on with bracing that I liked (A vs. fan). It's not something I would recommend to purists or traditionalists, but in this case, it turned out better then I ever could have hoped. But in the case of this 1537, I would guess that the top will stay. As it should.....
