Location: Florida | I have recently seen an older Ovation Applause guitar for sale.
It is an acoustic / electric with a jack and two fairly large black tone and volumn knobs on the side.
It does not have the standard shaped Ovation head. The head is fairly large and wide with four large rounds on top.
The inlays on the frets are alternating large and medium sized ovals.
Their is a large blue label on the inside that identifies it as an Applause. The lable states "A product of the Kaman" or something like that.
Somebody has taken a black marker and marked out the model number. |

I can't identify the guitar for you but I didn't want to see your first post unanswered. There's a vast amount of knowledge here and I'm sure someone will be able to help you.
If you've got some pics of the guitar that might help. |

Location: Northeast Ohio | Welcome Skyman, I saw one similar to what you have described on Ebay. The serial # would probably help to date it , but the model # I believe is AE38. James |

Location: SF Bay area, California | The notable thing about those first Applause models is that the neck is aluminum, with the frets integral (non replaceable). A urethane plastic foam was used for the backside neck countour and the headstock shape.
I had a 12 string like that way back when.

The AE-38 model is too new for your description, and has a conventional O headstock shape.
