Location: Cork, Ireland | Does anyone use ovations with amps intended for electric guitar? This area intrigues me, having seen John Campbell (www.devilinmycloset.net) playing a Gibson J-45 through Fender amps - great blues sounds, not quite like an acoustic but not quite an electric either. |

Location: Reno, NV | Although I don't have any high-end amps. I really enjoy my Ovation on my Roland on the Jazz Chorus setting with a hint of Chorus and Reverb. Sounds nice...to me anyway. |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Yes, but once my amp gets past 50% volume, it makes the acoustic piezo start to sound like an electric. It's just how the amps are voiced. |

IMHO the roland jc 30 is one of the best sounding amps for an ovation. |

Location: Omaha, NE | Amps for electric guitars are a whole topic in and of themselves. While PA's and 'acoustic amps' are designed to be as flat and neutral as possible, electric amps are intended to impart their own tone to the sound. For an electric player, the amp is as much a part of the instrument as the guitar, maybe more.
So, like Al said, plug it in and play around. There are a million different amps out there. You might find a sound you like. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Bass guitar amps, especially ones with 10" speakers sound pretty nice with Acoustic/Electrics too. I have played through my Eden Nemesis (twin 10's) and Ampeg B12N (12") and even the Ovation amps (which have 12" and 15") and all present a nice useable tone. My Rockman XP-100 does well (two 6" ) as well as my Velocette Twin (10's) and Roland Bolt 60. The Rockman, when used with an Ovation acoustic sounds pretty much like a Jazz Chorus, but the Roland with the single 12 has less depth and sound more like a Marshall.
Just for fun, I did hook up my Carvin 1/2 Stack and played my "Book" Elite. I had to go wireless with the guitar due to feedback issues, but it sounded great outside in the back yard. The amp was in the studio in the house, I was just outside with the guitar. Crisp clean highs and the low notes shook the house. I love EL34's!!! |
