Location: Corvallis, OR | I play Ovation "wide necks", (Folklore and folk artist,)and I would like to throw out a couple of items for general interest. first, Josh White, who consulted with Ovation for the design of the 1 7/8 inch nut guitars, was a splendid finger picker at the beginning of his career ('30s and '40s). Unfortunately, these recordings are rare, but they show him to be a good vocalist also.)
However,at the end of his career in the 50's and 60's, he favored a more smarmy approach to music, and sang mostly protest songs, with a cocktail lounge sound.
I once had the opportunity to hear his son perform, and I can tell you that there is a reason why you have never heard of his son.
I remember sitting there in the concert, and I realized that he was not just performing. He was actually trying to break the world's record for holding the same left hand chord position for one song. It was unbearable, yet amusing. |
