Location: Warren,Pa. | The heavier strings "power" the guitar more, bringing out better tone.
But I can't play mediums; I don't have the strength in my left hand. So I use Earthwood Medium Lights. The E and A are a bit heavier than in a light gauge set.

Location: SoCal | In reality, every guitar is different and what works on one guitar won't work on something else. I've got Elixir poly mediums on my 1537 and Elixir nano lights on my 87C (the 1537 is a very bright sounding guitar, the 87C much less bright). Elixir phos/bronze lights on the 1627 RI, and Elixir poly lights on the GCDB (the 1627 is not a bright guitar and the GCDB is very bright). I'm still experimenting with the FD-14. Right now I've got silk & steel on it. |
