Location: ranson,wva | ive never seen one of these,but i was trolling the bay and spotted one for dirt cheap so i threw a bid in one it. were these us made or were they offshore? what preamp was in them? the one in the auction looks like a oppro or a hexfx but the pic is blurry. i sent the seller a email asking for a clearer pic of the lable and the electronics...and help here is much abliged,....jason |

That 6868 is the Vintage finish. There's a non cutaway deep bowl, 6718 elite standard out there too in cherry sunburst a couple of listings down if you search 'ovation elite'. they also came in root beer which is somewhat rare.
they had FET-3 preamps originally.
so in total, there were 3 models, 6868, 6878, 6718. SSB cut, DB cut, DB non cut, respectively. Made in V- vintage, CSB- cherry sunburst, and RB root beer, which was a cool brown with maple epaulets. the 94 catalog shows them well. Also notice the epaulets are outies.
I love my 6718-V. John and Kim brought it back to like new. I bought it from an OFC member, can't remember his name, but the guitar was in his gallery...

Location: Central Massachusetts | I used to have a 6868LX, so if you think it's an OP Pro that might be what you're seeing. super shallow bowl. cutaway. usa. mine was sunburst.. man do I miss that finish! |
