I had the chance a few years ago to touch a guitar that literally left me stunned. Shape wise, it might have been Ova1771LX (the wood was dark brown though if I remember correctly), but the sound was like nothing I've heard before: very warm, silky and a bit jazzy. Needless to say, both high and low pitches sounded clear and powerful. Although it wasn't the most expensive guitar I've touched (around 700 EUR only), it definitely impressed me the most.
I couldn't buy it then though and I also forgot to write down the model. Any ideas please?!

Welcome! Your description covers a lot of ground in the Ovation world.

1771LX is a correct model number for a Standard Balladeer LX, although I don't remember a version of it in dark brown.

You might want to peruse the Ovation Gallery and see if something rings a bell.

Or you might want to check out the OFC Gallery by clicking "Member access" on the left of this page and then select Photo Gallery.

Or you might want to check the Ovation Tribute page for some ideas.

You could also try the Ovation Guitars web site, here .. click on Guitars and maybe LX Series to see if you find it. Also look under Collectors' Series to see if perhaps it was a special edition.

Somebody from EMEA might be able to chime in with the UK distributor URL.

Hope that helps! ...and Welcome, buy an O and stick around!

Welcome searchingfor!

To make it a little bit easier to find out: You say, a few years ago (the LX-series was introduced in 2005), you say, it was 700 Euros - was that 700 Euros for a brandnew guitar or a used one, and in which country?

In germany you will get for 700 Euros a new Celebrity (or Celebrity Deluxe - but this has epaulets, no classic soundhole), a korean made Ovation. If it was 700 Euros used, then it could have been a Legend or a Balladeer - US-made. I would not say it was a collector's model - there was only the Anniversary models with a round soundhole in a darker brown. And the Patriot.

What is also interesting to find the right guitar: Did it have a cutaway? As far as I know there has not been a Celebrity without for a long time - maybe always?

There have been some Celebrities in a great variety of colours.
Maybe you will check the link in my signature and look, if some guitar there reminds you (there is one legend in a darker brown).

If not, then you have to search through a lot of guitars in the links mentioned by dvd.

Best regards and good luck in finding your guitar,
Kurt

Hello DVD and Kurt and thank you for the warm welcome and lots of ideas. I'll check those links asap.
Sorry for being too vague, here's all I can remember: coincidentally it was in Germany I saw that guitar (late 2002). It was brand new, but I couldn't tell whether it was US made or not. It had cutaway, classical soundhole (round), rounded back (composite or some sort of fiber, since it was very light and didn't appear to be wood), and thin neck. Pre-amp was of course also there, that's all :)
Thank you once more for your inputs!
