A friend of mine in europe has an ovation, though what model I'm not sure... an electro-accoustic with the multi-soundhole thing... if I remember, it has base, treble and gain on the pre-amp, with a battery light. it's an absolutely gorgeous guitar, and I've fallen in love with it. It's so easy to play too! Well, I came home from there recently, and I decided to get an Ovation, but sadly, my budget doesn't go too far, which means I've had to get an Applause, the Applause deluxe AE147-4 to be precise, which will be delivered on Monday. Not only my first ovation, but also both my first new guitar and my first electro accoustic. What I've found though, is that there aren't really any reviews on it online, nor can I find any real information... the Applause line isn't even listed on the Ovation website, and I can't find a catalogue. Searching for the model finds many results, but they seem to differ on which pre-amp it uses... some say OP4b, some say OP4b, and one says OP10. Oddly enough, none of these pre-amps seem to be mentioned on the Ovation site either. What I've basically got is a guitar that I know I'm going to love, but even so, I know very little about. The one review I've been able to find, is on the AE047, which is apparently now replaced by the AE147, though the guitar reviewed was of the normal central soundhole style (I think). Can anybody shed any light on this whole confusing situation? I'd like to know as much about my new guitar as possible... I'm so excited :D

Other than how to change strings and how to take shims out from under the saddle, I don't recall reading anything in any of the manuals I have for my Ovations. The manuals don't give much information on the specific guitar model, from what I recall.

Despite the bare bones electronics and the not-so-upscale materials that it was made from, it was built like a tank, playability was awesome, and was quite happy with it. Personally, I preferred to play the guitar unplugged, for it could be annoyingly bright when it's amplified. If it wasn't for the damage it sustained on the neck, I never would've parted with it. Overall, the Applause is a nice starter guitar with awesome playability. Enjoy your new guitar. And while you're busy enjoying your guitar, you can start saving for the G.A.S. that will haunt you later on. :) Again, welcome to the OFC.
