Location: Carle Place, NY | I just got back from 5 days at the National Guitar Workshop in CT where I took Matt Smith's "The Complete Guitarist" seminar. It was fantastic and way, way beyond my expectations. Matt is a virtuoso musician and gutarist and he is the absolute best guitar instructor you will ever find. Each day there were two sessions of instructions, 3 hours each. Matt covered every musical genre and guitar technique. What made it really cool was that he has a unique ability to tie everything together so that it all makes sense and can be used for a lifetime of future practice and playing. Additionally, Matt did it all with humor and wit, which made it totally enjoyable. The class ranged in age from 13 to 54, with abilities from just above beginner to semi-pro.
I really can't say enough about Matt. He is the consumate guitarist and he truly enjoys imparting to his students everything that he has learned through his 38 years of playing.
All I can say is TAKE THIS COURSE!! Go to the website and get the info on NGW. You will come away from it with everything that you need to maintain enthusiam, dedication and commitment to improving your skills. Obviously, you'll have to wait for next summer's schedule, but NGW has seminars all over the country.
Thank you Matt, you really are the best. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | I took Harry Jacobson's blues and beyond. Great 5 days. Of course I flunked it so I'm going back because he's doing it again next week. OK, I didn't flunk it but there was so much and he's really good so I'm going for a second dose. This is a reasonably advanced course and you got to know your theory, which I'm not that good on either but it's still fun to try to get it.
Now Matt's classes are great. I've taken this one Mitch took and it is WELL worth the experience and was a real good building block for Harry's course.
Matt's Blues Blasters are great too and I've done those as well.
If you're thinking about these, stop thinking and sign up for next year (or next week for blues blastards)
Mitch, great seeing you again. |

Location: Carle Place, NY | Every instructor at NGW is a fantastic instructor and a virtuoso in thier own genre. What's special about Matt is that he can do it in any style and and at any tempo.
Based on my experience I would recommend any of the courses at NGW. It's total imersion into guitar. There are concerts every night by both instuctors and students and everyone is welcome to perform. The atmosphere at the campus is intoxicating.
The buzz hasn't worn off yet. |
