Location: lindawentz@peoplepc.com | I have recently acquired a slotted head, 12 string - looks antique brown. Accousitic/Electric - Looks like a Pacemaker, but has etched Ovation logo on each tuner.
I can't find anything that matches in any of the old catalogs. Did Ovation make any "made to order" guitars? It looks to be quite old, but sounds and plays beautifully. Just needed new frets. |

Location: North Wales | Your guitar fits the description of my 1975 Ovation 12 String Pacemaker, Linda. Model 1615-1.
On the tuners, the little caps which hide the gears of the tuners, have the Ovation logo present.
If you go the Ovation Gallery (ovationgallery.com) and click 12 string on the left, look below the pictures and you'll see the link to the pacemaker picture. You can't see the logo on the tuners, though.
Have a look in the sound-box of your guitar. If it has an oval metal disc, it's an early one. The model number will be on the top right hand side of the disc. Above the disc should be a paper label with the guitar's serial number.
With that info, you can go to ovationguitars.com and find the age and model number of your guitar if you want to.
The path is - ovationguitars.com, click on Support, then FAQ. On this page click on Cracking The Code at the top of the page. Decide how many digits your model number has and click on that link. The number after the hyphen on the model number is the colour code of the guitar, and not part of the model number.
Hope this helps. |

Location: lindawentz@peoplepc.com | Thank you all so much for the help. The serial # is the only thing I have inside to identify - #116959. I know it was made between Sept. 1977 and Apr. 1978. I wish there was some way to know who was the original owner. I found this incredible guitar (the sound is unlike anything I have ever heard in a 12 string)in the Good Will store! I paid only $157. Whoever owned it, played the peegeebees out of it, and whoever gave it to Good Will had no idea of its value. I'm guessing the original owner is deceased. The case looks like it has played many a gig. The attached, huge leather strap looked well worn, and the owner had a small, looks like plastic gaget, attached to the body at the neck with a much smaller square hole in the center. I am guessing again, it was some kind of attachment for a music holder. When my daughter comes to visit (I am semi computer illiterate)I will send a picture as the color still doesn't match the natural and sunburst that were made at the time. thanks again. |
