I expect better quality from Calvin Klein.

While playing over the weekend, I broke two G strings with in a minute of one another on two separate guitars. Playing the same song at the same verse and on the same strings (different gauge and both sets pretty new and put on at the same time), on first, the 47 and then, a minute, maybe two, later on the Custom Ute.

I don't break strings very often, but when I do, it's invariably, the 'G' or 'B'. To have two strings go under this condition.... Maybe it's trying tell me something. Weird.

Try not hitting them so *(*&ing hard.

Or are your thumbs now mega-sized from playing with the iPhone?

I have the same problem. On those rare occasions that I break a string it's almost always the G string, and the break is right at the saddle. I tried smoothing the saddle break-angle but it still occasionally happens. I'm thinking of using a larger G string but keeping the rest of the set at light gauge.

Maybe you just shouldn't play that song?

I used to break a lot of G's and D's and an occasional A, but rarely break any string since switching to a fairly thick Dunlop gray plastic pick. I EQ to compensate for the duller tone. Works for me, anyway.

Yeah, where does it break, and will adjusting ?? the break angle have effect ??...I thought broken strings were the result of strings being " pinched "..

..or voodoo spells..

Do you Use LeadPencil to Grease the Nut & Saddle ??

A couple weeks ago, I had an instance where I broke FOUR G-strings over the course of one night's gig.

The next morning I noticed that the string had made a very noticeable "groove" in the Ovation saddle. Since the saddle was bone, the groove was a bit less "forgiving" than the plastic one(s) and was in essence "cutting" the string when I played hard. I took a really fine emery board and "touched-up" the groove so that it wasn't so severe. Helped a lot.
A bit thicker pick and a bit less "flailing" helped as well . . .

For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the Bar... I keep thinking Starlite, but that ain't it... we used to drop in after taking in a movie at the theater....

I scored some great albums at the Mart... a great Lou Reed bootleg,
some obscure Stones stuff and the best score of all was the the import version of 'Dire Straits' with the full 10min version of 'Sultans of Swing' back when it had just recently come out...

I'll have to look around... if I find it, it's yours. It was very well done- exceptional quality for a boot.

(there's a very good chance my mother sold it at a yard sale- years ago at about the time I started going to all Compact Discs... and all my vinyl was in storage in her basement while I was traveling about... )
