It's just a GAS attack. Haven't we all with a few bucks in our pocket walked in to a GC and played a really cool guitar. One that also looked good and we couldn't wait to go back and get it.
BTW; As previously mentioned, a Celebrity is a nice sounding guitar for the money. |

Concerning the guitar`s mentioned,..Hmm..your choice is between the "Elite"type(multi hole) and the "Legend"type(single hole),..in my opinion, based on (dailey) comparisons, between USA made Elite, USA made Legend`s, Korean made Celebrity-(Legend type), I would say,..the "Legend" type sounds "chimey" measured against the "Elite",.. which in itself means,that the "Elite-type" might require "brighter" strings, that`s all,..!!..however, the Legend can "get away " with say, string gauge 11-52, where the Elite type might require 12-54, and is a real "Loudmouth" with gauge 13-56 , due to it`s big soundboard (Top) ,..if I may put it this way, which model do you like best..??..pick it up, and choose strings to your liking, do not be afraid to X-periment,..I like "Sunburst" best..!!..it has the advantage that fingerprints etc. do not show, and,..if you have not played 4 hrs. a day for the past 100 yrs., then I suggest to have it set-up for (X-treme) Low Action,..remember, a Solid Top will improve over the years,...

My 4361 is solid top SSB, GC057 is plywood SSB. The solid sounds better unplugged.
CC44-Plywood mid-depth, 1121 & 1621 solid-top mid-depth. The solids sound better.
Just sold an Ultra 1312 plywood top deep, my cracked 1112 sounds better.
This isn't just USO/import bias, most of my guitars were made in "AnothaLand"...
the 4861 is Korean solid, the Ultra was American Plywood. Solid wood sounds better.
Now, all of my imports sound Great plugged-in!
But you can do wonders with EQ and Chorus, but if we are talking about acoustic...
So if you can spring the extra bucks, the CSE44 would be better than CC44.
CSE has a Solid top and an OP30.
As far as eBarf goes, where most of my guitars came from...

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | OK, I had a few minutes to check out your guitars from your post: One question: is the reason you are looking at a Celebrity (made in Korea) Ovation only bercause of the money issue? I have played Celebrity's but for the money why not get great USA made Ovation? I personally don't really like the inports; I know there are some that do; but look at the problems you've had with yours (made in Korea)...why go there again when for the same money you can get a good USA made Ovation on eBay if you look around and are patient. The one I suggested in my earlier post is a killer guitar...it is now about what these imports you are looking at are going for...still about 16 hours left. If you don't have the funds to pay a bunch (say $450) out right, why not get a better guitar and finiance it? CALL AL; not sure if he can finiance but it never hurts to ask; and I know that GC will do that so why not get a better made and sounding USA made Ovation instead of an import? Or just pony up and get one off of eBAy! Thats the best advice I can give you. BTW, no one had been rude to you; they are trying to help. You could be grateful and say thanks!

Location: Tychy, Poland | i have top-of-the-line celebrity in CP-2002 (limited edition 2002, solid AA spruce top, a lot of bling etc + OP-24+ preamp) and old Legend '79.
CP is multi soundhole, mid-depth. sounds good plugged in (thanks to mr. Budny) but acoustically it's weak.
Legend has deep bowl, and kicks ass acoustically and plugged in, even though this guitar is almost 30 years old.
Neck is much, much more comfortable on my Legend.
Celebrity neck is much fatter, with flat fretboard which makes me tired after an hour of playing.
Overally, i'd never buy celeb again. I have played on 5 of them in shops in Poland, and not even a single one was close to my legend.
If You really want to buy something new and not to pay huge money, look for Samick guitars, like these:

Location: Chehalis, Washington | In that price range, if you're set on a new Ovation, it's really going to come down to a personal preference as to what sounds and feels best to you. My experience is that when you're looking at cheaper/import guitars, you really need to just pick each one up and see if it works for you or not. Celebs will be well-constructed guitars that do have good features for the dollars. I'd personally go with a used US Legend over anything else...I have a '79 1617 Legend at the factory getting a refresher right now...but if you're dead set against that, you're pretty much best off just playing them and making a gut decision.
Again, the new Ultra series could be a cool option too. I haven't played one myself, but personally that would be a step above a Celebrity for me. Here's a decent looking one:

If you can buy a 'Seasoned' minty Custom Legend for the same price as a new Ultra (which I've played, by the way, ok - but nothing to brag about) or Celebrity, I don't see a contest. She had a problem playing an 'F' chord on her guitar. Probably as much to do with the warp/twist as much as the neck profile. Those Koreans must have strong hands, my Celeb sucked... Anyway, after playing for about 25 years, I'm no professional, but I know what plays easy, and what hurts or fatigues my hands, and to boot, older guitars - treated right, just sound better. Good luck with that whatever new Celebrity you buy Fish, but money spent doesn't always equal satisfaction. If your in my neck of the woods, stop by. You can play my Custom Legend, and if you like it, you can have it for less than the imports...

Your choices clearly are either a steel string or an electric. If you are a real real beginner, you might be better served by an electric as you won't need as much hand strength. If you have some experience then go with a steel string.
If you really are going after a classical look at Yamaha or Ibanez brands in your price range, and then for just a step up look at ovation or takamine. The fender ain't as good as the cheapest yamaha. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Well ... I guess I'll chime in on this on too. I'm sitting in a coffee shop right now in Grand Rapids, MI. I just finished playing about 40 different guitars at Elderly Instruments. Aside from the $10,000 - $20,000 ones, The new guitars were really pretty blazee'sounding. I came to the realization that the old ones at my house were much more satisfying to play than anything I touched today. I used to have a couple of those Custom Legends and they are SWWWEEET!. They play and sound better than many instruments that sell for 4-5 times the price of a used one. Nothing against the foreign models though. I would recommend one for any beginning guitar player. But once a person gets some playing experience under their belts and trys a USA-made Ovation, they're more likely to convert over very quickly. If you are not capable of hearing or feeling the difference, then go ahead and get the plywood-made guitar. |
