Location: Portland, OR | Hi Guys- I just picked up a very clean 1978 1612-4 and am excited to get her cleaned up and set up. The guy I bought it from has had it since new in 1978, but rarely plugged it it. I installed fresh battery and got a LOT of hum and noise/crackle when I plugged it in. tried a different cable and after a while it seemed to calm down a bit but imagining it has crud and oxidation built up from over he years, but once it quieted down the pickup sounded great through my Loudbox Artist. Would love feedback from anyone who has encountered this.
Secondly the original rosette has faded with aged and has some internal cracking, etc that seems common with 45 year old Ovations from this era. Anyone know where I might be able to source a replacement?
Had this same guitar when I was in HS. Playing it brings back lots of great memories. Super comfortable. Lots of mojo.
