Location: New Jersey | Hi all - just got an 1112 from 1974 and looking for an appropriate socket wrench to adjust the truss rod. I have a Musicnomad 1/4" wrench, but it doesn't fit.
What is the correct size and where can I get one? I searched the forums and it looks like it may be 3/16"?

Location: Pueblo West, CO | Wait. The OEM TR nut on an 1112 should be 1/4".
I just checked my wrenches and they're 1/4"
Keep in mind that someone may have changed it out. Also, the wrench/nut driver needs to be extremely thin-walled to fit into the notch. |

As to whether it is narrow enough for the trussrod channel, you will have to measure it.

Location: When?? | Going with a 1/4" drive wrench on a 3/16" socket will also provide a straight and slim outer diameter size all the way up and down the socket for possibly a better angle and clearance into the headstock slot (in comparison to a 3/8" wrench drive that graduates from wide to narrow on that small of a socket) . Using an extension or deep socket could also aid with clearance for the width of the wrench head near the wood. |

I thought that, too. But I guess that's where pliers could come in. No, not on the nut, but on the handle of the nut driver. Crank that baby! One of those low ball things you don't really want to do in front of anyone.. but it works. |

Location: Muenster/Germany | Never forget to first add a drop of penetrating oil and let it work for a couple of minutes before you try to move an old trussrod and then first open it a bit. Trussrods are often rusty. When I get an old guitar I always varefully remove the trussrod nuts, clean and grease them and try to clean the screw a good as possible, too. Sometimes I add a washer so that the nut will hopefully remain better moveable. |
