Location: Gig Harbor, Washington | Heeelp! Can anyone offer me some pointers on "tech'g" my sons Storm Eclipse (335 Wannabee)...
The intonation is waaay out, and so I need to adjust the bridge height, the string length settings, and perhaps even the truss rod...
Any insights y'all may have (like what order to attempt these various adjustments, etc.) would be Greatly Appreciated!

1. Neck angle adjustment
2. TR adjustment
3. Saddle height adjustment
4. Intonation adjustment |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I had intonation problems with a Hurricane a few months ago so I changed the strings, made the other adjustments suggested by Tupp, then hooked up a tuner and tuned each string at the nut and then again at the 12th fret, adjusting the intonation as necessary to minimize or eliminate the difference in the readings between the two. I don't know if this is technically the correct way to do this, but it worked. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | If your intonation is way out as you suggest, you might want to do a pliminary setting of the saddles; remember the distance between the nut and the 12th fret should be the same from the 12th fret to the saddles on the bridge; that is a reference point and then you can adjust accordingly...but thats a good place to start. Bridge height is a matter of personal taste but should be done only after adjusting the neck and before intonation set. You should loosen all strings, adjust the neck by turning the adjustment only a quarter turn at a time and retune (if the intonation is out, don't worry, string tension is what we're after at this point; now on the base E string (6th) place a finger on the first fret and the last fret at the same time...you're looking for a space in the middle of the neck between the frets and the string of about the thickness of a business card or two (one would be better). Once that is done, you can set the intonation, bridge height and you should be good to go. The neck angle should be done before any thing but that is something that is hard to perdict without seeing the guitar. You should (with strings off of course) remocve the neck to see if any shims are added in the neck pocket. If so and the angle is already too great (very high action) you might want to remove them and preform the neck adjustment I described. Remember take your time here and do not do too much adjustment at one time...taking the curve out of a neck is not an all at once operation. Best wishes! |

I got the neck angle idea, the TR adjustment methodology, and the intonation techniques - BUT, I'm not sure about setting the correct saddle height...how will I best determine when I'm on the $$$???
