I joined about 2 weeks ago and have been lurking while awaiting the delivery of my 1778LX BCB Ovation. Well it came last Thursday but I have been so busy playing it I neglected to post.
What a great guitar! Action and intonation are perfect, finish is first rate.
I own several other guitars but have always wanted an O, I am not disappointed. Dan

Dan,

Welcome to the club, and congrats on a satisfying purchase. That's a popular model, and a eyecatching finish. I hope you'll become an active participant on this forum.

Welcome and glad to hear about you new Ovation...those are great guitars...don't be afraid to join the discussions and ask any questions...as was reported in another recent post (today): if we don't know the answer we'll make something up or change the subject...Careful though...Ovations are addictive! Plan ahead for storage space/room/additional house, etc. lol
Enjoy!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will have to stop playing long enough to take some pics. My other guitars are jealous.
I do have one question. Does the gold hardware require any special care? All my other guitars are chrome.
I have to get ready for work now (have to pay for this beauty somehow) Thanks again Dan

Just keep the tuning buttons clean; wipe 'em off with a chamois or microfiber cloth after tuning. If your fingers are extra oily (like mine) clean 'em off periodically with a mild solvent like Windex or some such. I've seen older O's show some pitting on the gold buttons, so it pays to minimize contact with the acids in your skin oils.

Welcome Dan. I joined just a few days ago myself. I had an Ovation Custom Balladeer 12 string in 1985, and it was stolen in 1988. Never owned another until 2007, when one was given to me from an estate (Standard Elite 6778LX).

It took me back 20 years! I was playing stuff that my other 20+ guitars were not drawing out of me. So strange and magical how this inspiration thing works...

I've since bought two more which are on their way to me... a 1769-7 Custom Legend cutaway from '89 and a '94 Adamas I cutaway 1587-8 in reverse blue burst. Fairly excited here... and as usual, carried away with GAS!

I'll be posting videos and clips eventually to share these instruments with the group.

Another reason not to tune your guitar. :D

BTW; Welcome all you new guys with all the new guitars.

King Windom,
Welcome to the board

If those gold machines are 24k gold-plated,than care is unnescary ,since that real gold is impervious to human-acids,..eventual "bubbles" are caused by impurities in-between the gold and the metal underneath,..nothin`to do about that, short of removing and re-coating..buying new tuning machines could be cheaper :)

Vic

..just wipe off the dust/fingerprints..

Thanks for all the replies! So I will care for the machines the same as I do my other guitars.
The more I play the O the more I like it, intonation is spot on and I don't find the round back a problem at all.
Thanks again for the replies and the welcome to the group. Dan

I have a question for the king. Many of us on the board bought an Ovation years ago and continue to buy new models and praise their quality. You said you've owned other guitars, and always wanted and Ovation. Why? Also, what were your impressions of Ovation, prior to your getting one. Welcome and happy picking.

Back in the 70's I had a friend that had an Ovation which I thought was a great guitar. I played Ovations in music stores over the years and was always fond of the neck, they play smoother than most acoustics.why I have not bought one before now I cannot say, but I am glad I did.

About My other guitars:

1965 Mosrite burst Ventures model (original owner)
Gibson ES335 Dot (re-issue)
Casio MG510 MIDI guitar
DiPinto Galaxy Los Straitjackets Model (won in contest)
Ibanez AK85 Jazz box
Taylor 714 (pre cedar top)

Each has it's own sound and playing personality, the O just adds another tonality neither better nor worse than the others. The quality of the Ovation easily matches or surpasses any of the above instruments.
My music tastes run from rock to jazz to smooth finger style but my main love has always been surf guitar. (..hmmm..acoustic finger style surf music..) Dan

King, welcome to the OFC. There's a few of us here who also love surf music. I grew up in Southern California in the 1960's, spent years at the beach when you could still park in the sand, and played in a few garage surf bands myself.
