It doesn't involve "contact paper", but it's a pretty involved process.

When I described to Darren how I "suspected" it was done, he was quite surprised how much of it I was "right" with . . .

I DID play that sans-soundhole textured top.
It just had a "soundport" in the side created by the hole where a pre-amp would go . . .
It didn't "project" OUT for shit, but sounded great when PLAYING it! Would make a nice "practice guitar . . .

When I asked Darren about it he said it was put together as a joke.
I thought it was intentional. The side-port sound hole thing seems to be the rage among small wood-box builders. I saw one guy that claimed a massive volume gain out the front with the addition of a side port. Wish I knew where I put that link...

Just ask Stonebobbo... he rocked out with it.
I really liked that guitar. As soon as the guitar fund is replenished, I am going to find one to buy.

I wonder what happened to the blue one with the "rain drop" finish we saw on the tour a couple of years ago?
Bob,
As I stated before, I was surprised that the guitar was thought of so highly. I guess if I can't have a #47 reissue this is the closest thing to it that I can afford. I know that I took a lot of pictures of you while you were playing it. I want to apologize if I put a damper on the fun you were having with it. It's just that I knew there was going to be a few "Nikon camera moments" when you were rocking with the guitar.

See, now you've upset Al. Your're at least 3 weeks too early to be discussing the next tour. No patience.

I was just talking to John Budny about it today, as a matter of fact. If you have a real life, you have to plan ahead. If you don't have a life, you pester Al about planning ahead.

Amelia Island at the end of March. The OFC tour jam a couple of months later. Maybe something locally in between. Can you go to too many guitar events? Didn't think so.

I'm sure if there is going to be any factory event next year that Al will announce it at the appropriate time. I quench my own curiosity by assuming that there is no event planned until I hear otherwise. Dave

All I found was this exceptionally inexpensive, yet very good quality, cabernet. Smoking Loon 2006, on sale at the local Meijer's Shifty Acres for $7.50/bottle. Sure, it's a blend and no, they don't grow their own grapes, but...you can't beat it for the price. Stay away from the 2004, though, it was tart and had a funky finish (OK, the first glass was downright nasty, but you know how it is...who cares after the first two, right?).

Now, how the heck did we get on the subject of what's in my wine cabinet? ;)

aaaah.......Smoking Loon, price is right, and a pretty good little blend.

Drink the good bottle first, and everything that follows will be fine.

At my son's wedding they served Winking Owl. Available for about three fifty or less. Certainly kept the final bill a little more respectable. Thirty cases were consumed and no one complained. Quanity over quality?

Yeah, the Loon is good. I discovered it about, gosh, five or six years ago and thought it was the bees knees. Then I hit that 2004 a couple years back and swore off it. My best friend talked me into picking up the 2006 and I'm back in the fold. We have an ongoing competition to find the best wine for under $10/bottle. So far, the Loon is it (excluding the 2004...everyone get that? Heh).

Thanks for the tip on Winking Owl. I went and did a search. We have an Aldi's near by, so maybe I'll go get it...supposedly only $2.50 there! ;)

Check out these comments about Winking Owl if you want a good laugh. :D

To get $2.00 wine up here you have to make it.

Of course today we can cross the border, where a dollar is a dollar, get drunk and drive home! (Avoid the import duty that way.)
