Why do people bid more for an Applause Guitar, while there were two USO's with $110 and $229 BIN's?
(also a 1317 US Ultra for $145)

So educate me... Is there something special I am missing? I can even understand old Matrix's and Academy's... But there is an Applause 12 for $349 ... Someone must be buying these.
Am I missing something

It's hard to say with pricing, w.r.t. a single auction on eBay..

You can get a better idea on eBay by running a custom search on "completed transactions only", to which I usually add "include dealers". If you run the same search regularly, using the include/exclude search words to narrow your search, you get a better idea on the street price of the given item.

For any given current auction, so much depends on the slickness of the ad, the photos included, and the feedback rating of the seller. (Be wary of seller ratings below 99%). Some regular sellers are known to be better than others, and they command a premium at the gavel's drop. Look at the list of bidders on the auction and get an idea of the eBay experience of the bidders. Some buyers are just getting started and will bid with their hearts, instead of their heads.

If you are a regular eBay user, and KNOW the market for what you are interested in, consider using an independent sniping service to put your bids in for you in the auction's closing seconds. That way you don't run the price up early. The yearly fee charged by the sniping service can be paid for in the money saved on a single transaction of a high-priced item.

I have over 1,100 eBay transactions of lower-to-higher priced items over the last years. I still scratch my head on some individual auctions' outcomes. But, in general, I feel comfortable with the longer-term process. EBay's ads are followed by buyers around the world. That's about as perfect a pricing model as you can get academically.

Either they want a new guitar at a certain price point, are buying their first guitar and/or have a lack of knowledge of the many different quality levels that Ovation offers.

I bought a new LX last year because I wanted a NEW guitar. Have since bought to more used O's and a used A. Think it was the knowledge thing in my case....and GAS.

People buy based on THEIR preferences, not YOURS. No telling why people buy anything.
