And so with Custom Legend strapped on, I roamed my backyard and came up with a happy sort of groove. Wanted to capture it before the idea vanished in the wasteland of my memory, so here's that effort... Three guitars here: - Left channel, Custom Legend 1769 (main rhythm) - Right channel, Adamas I 1537 (accent rhythm) - Center, Standard Elite 6778LX (leads) Each guitar was recorded with no EQ, just a little reverb and compression. Two channels each, one direct and one mic'd. For fun, there are three mixes. I'm just experimenting as this is the first time I've recorded these guitars. Blend Mics only Direct only Hope you enjoy!

The technology is passe at this point, yet it's still amazing to stop and appreciate that! This was a quickie recording, but I think the guitars sounded pretty good. Could use a little tasteful EQ here and there, but they translate well on "tape."

Thanks! :D I just finished uploading a video of the Adamas 1587 to YouTube (see my sig for URL). This one is mostly single note lines, improvising to a mellow song by the band Luminous. The guitar is so freaking unique! Hard to judge it alongside wood guitars really. Nothing like a normal Ovation either. Very inspiring. But then, everyone else here knows that already I s'pose. :p Bring on the tunes! I can't stand just talking about guitars - let's hear your music guys and girls! Peace -

Vic ..I mentioned your choice of gauge, based on scale-length, to some friends, and that spurred of a debateful evening, yet, we all agreed, that it`s an interesting approach,a usable foundation.. :)

Joined: September 2007 Posts: 153 Location: New Jersey, USA | My take on the mixes is this: The mics sound the most intimate and "soft" for lack of a better word. The direct signals; well, they are what they are. We're all used to that sound. By themselves, they have the least ambience. They are punchier than the mics though, with a strong attack. The blend is cool because you get the natural tone of the mic'd instruments but a little bit of punch from the DI signal. If I was to really labor over this mix, I'd try things like compressing just the DI signals and boosting the bass on them. I'd blend them low in the mix, maybe centered, and pan the mics wide. The mic I'm using here is a Shure KSM32 large diaphragm condenser. It's pointed roughly at the neck/body joint and 8" away. Nothing too surgical. Vic - would love to have a bunch of friends to banter about strings and scale length with! (wife nods head but can't add much) ;)
