Location: Texas | Ha, good question.
The direction to me was: "play something sad" like... on the spot! So I figured; mmm... well... I will play some blues...but as the takes where happening, like about 10 of them! Everything started to speed up, plus you know...playing the banjo while walking....and for like about, I don't know...50 yards? It is not an easy task!
So not only playing while walking, but with horses walking by, plus wagons, lots of people, dust, etc...and the main thing for everyone to remember when they call "action"...Don't look at the camera!
Really an incredible experience...then after they wraped up the day, everyone going back to the tent to return the wardrobe and freshen up and then get ready to join everyone for dinner at a huge tent...remember, this is on location in the middle of nowhere...after a massive day of shooting...and everyone was there...all the main actors, extras, crew, etc...all just happy and tired and lots of laughter and relaxation with a great massive buffet and beer and tequila!
I did 3 more days of shooting playing banjo while riding in wagons and on a campfire...but obviously those scenes did not make the final edit.
But, man...what a great experience...and I made about $500 bucks of 1983 money, plus lodging and food....sweet gig!
