I started playing Ovations in 1975 and can honestly say, I've never seen one of these anywhere.  Not in a store, or on stage with someone playing it.  Not even Glen Campbell for heaven's sake! Anyone here ever see and/or play one? https://reverb.com/item/25349029-extremely-rare-1981-ovation-9-string-based-on-the-anniversary-model-6773?gclid=CjwKCAjw9dboBRBUEiwA7VrrzTnPyFmi1XC_ap8Htl29PQIRRaY117tAJNo6obTWAF3OV-tSx2vhvhoC6boQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&pla=1

I saw a black Legend 9-string for sale on Craigs List a few years back when I was actively buying and selling. I called as soon as I saw it, but it was gone already. The idea of an Ovation 9-string is oddly appealing to me, if only for something really different.

There was a fellow Keyman playing one in Nashville in the 80's. Can't remember his name...

I'm not being snotty (on purpose, anyway), but couldn't you achieve the same thing by taking off 3 'high' strings from a 12-string? Just wondering.

Sure.
You would have to cut a new Nut to center the bass strings if you are truly serious about that.
Also to remove the empty tuners to save a few ounces on the headstock.

Also, I looked to see if that was a 12-string bridge...
It does not looks like a True 9-string bridge.
I think that they put fiber tape over the string holes and drilled new ones.
(That Tape looks like a Good Idea to preserve your bridge on any Ovation)
