My dad has an old Adamas textured surface 12-string deep bowl, (not sure of the model) and I've been keeping my eyes out for something that would sound and play as sweet but not break the bank. I have an Ovation Elite from around 1996, but it's shallow and sounds tinny and is stiff to play so I hardly play it, opting for my reliable Seagull...

Now I've found a couple blue 1685 Adamas II from the 1980s for lower prices - any concern or reason with them being lower priced? Is it not quite up to par? I haven't been (and won't be able) to play them since they are on eBay and similar sites.

Any feedback and thoughts?

The difference between 1688 (Adamas) and 1685 (Adamas II) 12 string guitars is mostly cosmetic.

The Adamas 1685 is an excellent guitar main difference is neck and bridge but the tone is almost identical to the 1688,make sure it has good action and a straight neck (ask for pics) and go for it you'll be very happy

What is “low priced”? but it’s hard to go wrong with a 1685

Hey, yentna, I see we're from the same neighborhood. It's nice to have other Ovation/Adamas fans nearby!

Hey FlySig, that's awesome! Maybe a Utah get-together someday.

The guitar was $1999, and sounded great (he'd posted a video) but I waffled a few minutes too long and it sold about 15 minutes after the seller messaged me back with an answer to a question. Sigh, I'm kinda crushed. Good to know though if another one shows up, eh?
