Have you compared the acoustic-only difference between an early and late Country Artist model? I'm thinking mine would be just as sweet because the top has aged and has no cracks...As far as construction/bracing differences, I don't know, but mine still sounds bright with Savarez 520's.

The Ovation (homepage) Archive sez that my 1621 is a Shalow Bowl, but that my 1121 is a Deep Bowl... They are the same guitar, basically (ain't they?). And they both fit in the same case as my 1112's. [and it sez that they both have VT-8 Bracing]

The one that came with the 1121 (Acoustic Artist) has purple furry stuff inside.... Nothing besides the 1121 will fit in that one. Not even the 1621! (but the 1121 will fit in the others) I have two really ugly brown cases, so I just stick whichever guitar into a Nice case if we go out on a date! I stand corrected. Cuz even the 1621 won't go in the Artist case, and it ain't just cuz of the knob, it has a pocket for that. So... I'm confused now... If the 1121 is a deep bowl, why won't the 1621 fit in there? :p Actually, they both look alike to me... Until I just tried this switch.

Joined: July 2002 Posts: 1900 | Anyway, my original question about the 1862...there was a nice one on the 'bay, the auction just closed tonight, sold for $335. I thought was a good buy for the bucks, kind of a cutaway super-shallow verison of the Custom Balladeer, with a factor case. I guess it went for less without a reserve. I would've spent that to have an original in good condition..

Don't always believe the Ovation website archives. Here's a link to the 1970 catalog when the Artist series of guitars was introduced (included the GC, the Artist, and a nylon string Artist Classic. 1970 Catalog Also, I was wrong about the depth of the old shallow bowl. I said it was 5 1/4" deep. It was actually 5 1/8" deep (compared to the current mid depth bowl at 5 3/8").

Learn somethin' new everyday! [the 1121 does have it's serial # on the block, but it was made in New Hartford... I have no idea how old it is]
