I own a Breadwinner and have a question that could just as well pertain to a Viper as well since it has a similar neck.

I've noticed that the notes beyond the 17th fret sound rather dull with not much sustain compared to my others guitars, one of which also has a 24 fret neck. At first I thought it was the action, which I have adjusted by loosening the truss rod, but it still seems the same.

Is this just the way it sounds, or could it be something else... like the strings or the pickups?

Anyone else have similar experience?

How old are the strings and what gauge? There are a bunch of things that come into play, that I guess are accentuated as you get up into the higher frets. First, lighter gauge strings don't have much vibration up that high. If the setup is such where the strings are being pulled a little closer to the pickups up that high... the magnetics can dampen the strings too. While the Viper and Breadwinner regardless of configuration have completely different pickups, Ovation pickups are hot... as in the are serious magnets comparatively speaking.
