I tried to adjust the output on my neck pickup by turning the screws clockwise but basically all output on each string on the neck pickup has shut off! Any advice?

Offhand I would say the two events (adjusting and no output) are not directly related. I would flip the switch a few times and maybe even remove the pickguard and do a visual. Also, when things like this happen I try to keep the guitar plugged into a small battery powered amp while removing and trouble-shooting. Be careful you don't damage anything of course, but just something that will let you know a signal happens or not as it can be anything from a loose transistor or pickup lead to just a dirty switch and sometimes just moving things around leads you right to the problem. Make sure you are using fresh batteries.

Thanks
The Ovation 1's are passive so no battery...
There really did seem a direct relation between adhusting the volome per polepiece and the lack of output took off pickguard and visually seemed OK. Any experience with these pickups?

Sorry, I'm always flipping the 1's and 2's in my head (repeat to myself... I = passive, II = active, repeat).

Anyway, I have dealt with a gaggle of these pickups and never had a failure.

If you back the screw up, does it come back on? Maybe blow some "tuner cleaner" (the non residue kind) into the pickup.

If it doesn't free the problem let me know and I'll rip a damaged one apart and see if I can see a candidate for point of failure. Actually, I'm curious now and may do it anyway...

Sounds like you've just set the trim-pot for each coil to it's minimum (off) position. Try turning them all to maximum output as a starting point and balance the individual string outputs from there.

Thanks for the help
When I got the bass the "sound/tone" was great but the output was way lower than I expected. I read the manual and it said to turn the screws all the way clockwise to get max output. I did this but there was no end point. They just kept turning and the sound gradually went off on a string by string basis.I tried turning counterclockwise but no change. Is there something messed up on the screws?

Even with the control trimmers all the way down there should be some output. Sounds like there's a short, also the trimmers should only rotate 270 degrees.

If you are going to repair the pick-up this Magnum Neck Pick-up Patent will show you how it should be.

Wow, this is a huge help... I'm neither technically confident or competent to try this myself but my amp guy here in Montreal is great.

If worse comes to worse, I have a few pickups for sale, but they aren't listed in my eBay store yet, so just eMail me at mileskb @ aol.com if it turns out you need one.

The saga continues
I was hoping to have this solved earlier but my electronics guy is fairly ill.
I brought the bass to another guy. He said that the trim pots were essentially broken/shot.
He has changed them but he has a couple of questions I hope somebody can help me with.
Should the Neck pickup be noiseless, there is a faint buzz...next, does anyone know the pot value of the trim pots... this might be an issue...
Thanks
Phil
