The 1768-X (Sambora's double neck) was available from the factory some years back...for the paltry sum of $8000. As you stated the Celebrity double necks are still available, but one of the biggest differences between a Celebrity and the 1768-X is that the neck orientation is reversed--the 12 string neck on the 1768-X is on the treble side. Still, all very cool guitars.

All in all it would have been better if it was built in U.S. (it had to undergo several improvements by my luthier to make it even playable) but it is a tremendous guitar.I use to play some open tunings but if you have two necks and a capo you get completely crazy, the easiest, simplest songs are about to grow to sound cathedrals. All these possibilities.. play the 6string in standard tuning with a low C and the 12 string in DADGAD, partial capo on 7th fret, or better the 6string open G, or, or....before you look up the first time it´s dark outside, you are dehydrated and hungry and it´s time for bed..And I´m not talking about playing electric yet..with all these chorus, flanger and other effects this guitar turns into a heavy drug (I just have to mention that both of the guitar preamps are perfectly balanced!). I suffer from hypertension so the guitar better has to be stored in the case most of the time;-)

There were tours of the factory and it was a gorgeous sunny day. They had a small stage set up and several Ovation endorsers showed up and played with some Ovation factory workers on the stage. John McLaughlin (RIP) and Al Dimeola were there and played...I would say that Richie Sambora created the biggest splash owing to the fact that at that time Bon Jovi was about the biggest rock band on the planet. People from the surrounding area were parking on the access road to the factory and swarming in to catch a view. All in all it was a wonderful day, they even let us vendors attend. If I could place a pinmark on the pinnacle of Ovation's popularity this would be one of them.

It would be nice if they could have something like that again. It's sad that the old building is no longer cranking out guitars, but from what I've seen reported there are a few things happening in there that could also benefit from such a gathering at the current plant next door. Am I right? Are there food, drink and retail shops in the old building now?

I guess I shouldn't buy a ticket to his show in Seattle in December.I sincerely apologize for mixing up Larry Coryell and John McLaughlin - what a collosal blunder. It was Larry who played at Zero Defect Day. I'll blame it on old age. If a mod could edit my post I would appreciate it and so would John McLaughlin! Enjoy the show in December.
