In my opinion and others (ask Moodie)...the 1688 is the finest 12-string you can find and play. And this is blue. It is both a collectible and a true player's guitar. When is the last one you have seen one offered for sale? I don't know if you can still special order one or how long it would take to take delivery. This is as new, 10/10. Case is the 9158-0 and is perfect. Why am I selling, well I have ten other Adamas, Ovation (to include a shiny bowl), and Martin (D12-45) 12-strings - acoustic and electric. She sings, this deserves someone who will play the 'heck' out of her. $3,900 not including shipping/insurance...so, a little less than $4,000 with shipping. If it sells later, I retain the right to raise the selling price. I would prefer not shipping overseas unless I can get Al to coach me. Not cheap but I paid a lot more for the Martin D12-45 and, IMHO, this is a better 12-string. These are poor pics...can take better if serious buyer. ![]() ![]() ![]()

If I were selling. Which I'm not and wouldn't. I've got 5 guitars that will never be for sale -- 1688, FD14, rebuilt Legend, 87C, Custom 1773LX....

The rest (woods/body size/etc.) was his discretion. I gave him my 1688 and he got the dimensions off the neck and built me a guitar that feels and plays just like the 1688. Course being all wood it sounds different but that's what I was looking for...a guitar that played and felt as wonderful as the 1688 but that would have a different yet complimentary tone. It was a success.....in large part because of the neck copied from the 1688.

It is an instrument that any 12-stringer should seek. It was not a production model and I seriously expect that anything like it will have to be a special/custom order, if available. In the future, anyone searching archives will see that it is offered but the price will be considerably higher. As to selling it now, strange in that I will pick up another 12 that is not as easy to play...just my masochistic tenancies I guess. Personally, I have never found better 12-string necks than in Ovation and Adamas 12's. This one, with the OP-50 pre-amp, allows anyone full control and interchangeability (and probably upgrade). Not cheap but nothing great ever is...

But I'll say this, to rival the 1688 it would have to be one hell of an instrument. I have played every brand, make, and model that I know of; and I have owned well over 30 different 12's over the years...not counting the occasional custom build, the Adamas 1688 is the best sounding, loudest, most visually striking and memorable production 12 string I have ever seen or played...Hands Down; no contest! My 1688-7 still astounds me every time I take it out of its case and play the first notes, and the audiences that have gotten to hear it have been astounded with the its sound and looks: It never fails to attract a crowd following the concert... Adamas 1688: accept no substitutes! You will not be able to get a new one at the price of Tony's...
