Refret, or re-seat frets?

My recently purchased 1614 has some lifting frets, maybe they weren't ever seated (I'm assuming this is not original). Some show a brown glue ooze bulging out from under the tangs. I haven't tested the glue for hardness. These frets are generating string buzzing. I have a plastic faced hammer, heat source, and an arbor press (for the remaining 18 hours of my visit to my brother's farm). No cauls, but I might be able to fabricate some. Hit? Heat & hit? Heat & squeeze? I'm sure there are a few opinions out there. Thanks! Mark - on the farm

Of course I also didn't heat them up to soften the glue. You might be able to get them back down by heating the fret with the tip of a soldering iron to soften the glue, then giving it a whack with your plastic-face hammer. The only way to tell for sure if it'll work is to give it a shot. | ||

That freaky ooze may not be anything you want to keep (said the Philippine doctor to the sailor). Make sure to use a soldering iron to soften the glue so that you don't chip out the fret slots. Slower is better than faster. Dan Erlewine's video is a good primer on how to remove frets. http://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Trade_Secrets/Removing_the_frets_on_t...
