The other day I asked my brother-in-law if I could take his acoustic home to change strings, do a tune up, clean it up, etc... He said, "Sure...and I'll probably play it more at your house." Uhh, I think that means he's letting me keep the guitar at my home...he's more or less giving me the guitar! Wow.
I hope so. The guitar in question is a 2006(?) Ovation Balladeer LX 12 string model. The 12 string means...it has 12 strings! I do not have a 12 string acoustic in my guitar collection so this is a big wow for me.
I've done all the maintenance on the guitar and she plays and sounds like a dream. A 12 string acoustic with fresh strings is just heaven to the ears. I hope my bro-in-law has already forgotten that the guitar is in my possession. Folks, I think I just got a new guitar.
Here she is:
Just a question or two:
1. The LX designation on the guitar....LX on automobiles indicates luxury options. Same with Ovation guitars? Why LX?
2. Any place I can accurately date the guitar via serial number data bank or something?
3. There was not enough room to adequately put the truss rod tool into the truss rod opening. This has never happened to me on any guitar I own. No way am I going to scoop out some wood in the headstock in order to make room for the tool to fit. Can I bend the truss rod wrench to get a better angle on it?
Thanks for any help. |

Actually it has a lighter bowl and sturdier, more precise neck joint.

As to the Truss Rod Wrench I would find a different wrench.
I believe that it is 3/16" but I am not positive.
And yes, you can bend the wrench, it is your wrench.

Location: Canada | Sweet. I had a pre-LX 12-string Balladeer which was awesome, and still have a LX Legend 12-string. I think the LX Balladeers were only produced for very few years maybe 2007 and 2008. |
