| This is probably a well-worn question, but I've yet to find the answer anywhere online.
The preamp in my circa 1993 12-string Legend 1756 has packed up. This has been tested and confirmed by our local guitar fixer, though he didn't have a 'keeping it as original as possible' solution and referred me to the internet.
Is there a perhaps later direct replacement for the old OP-24 preamp? The guitar is otherwise still flawless, plays beautifully, and I neither want to replace it nor cut it about to fit a different kind of preamp. This has to be a common problem as these 1990s electronics start to fail, so I'm sure there is an answer.
And before anyone suggests it, I did email Ovation two weeks ago about this but have had no reponse. I'd also like to sort it fairly soon as I plan to come out of retirement and start gigging again soon. |

Either send another email or call them.

I would call them. 1-800-552-4681
I just looked on eBay... I don't see any OP-24 preamps for sale.

| Still digging for info, I have found a guitar specialist who is selling OP-24+ preamps. It looks the same shape, but no dimensions given. And anyway, can these be used as a straight swap for the older OP-24? Or is it a not-quite-straight swap but possible with a bit of the right knowledge. Is there anyone on here who has done this swap, or knows anything about it? |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | I think that the OP24 and the OP-24+ face-plates are the same size.
But the OP-24+ preamps that I have seen have an battery box in the side, and the OP24 has a battery box inside the bowl.
But it you are handy with at soldering iron, that should not be a problem.
Also, the OP-24+ might be a little bit longer.
You can make the hole a little bigger, but you cannot make the hole smaller.
Once again... Call Ovation, they might have an OP24.

And it looks like the OP24 and OP-24+ are not a direct swap-out.

| Thanks for that. It clears up the theory about swapping in an OP-24+...and has saved me from spending over 100 pounds on something that could be a real pain to fit, and may well be beyond my capabilities.
I'll try Ovation again. Fingers crossed... |
