So a few weeks ago I bought a used 12-string (1615 Acoustic Electric) ... I asked the guy what happened to the saddle (ivory coloured bit where strings guide through) and he didn't really have an answer. Basically, it looks as though a knife was taken to it and they made new channels so the strings are not evenly spaced. It's difficult to tune the A's & D's as they are practically against each other.


Today, I took it in to a shop and enquired about getting it fixed, well, replaced. They'll call Ovation tomo about the part...I'm just wondering if it's attached to the pickup and if so does that mean it will need a new pickup? I don't know why it would but it occurred to me that it might. Am I going to have serious sticker shock?

In the interest of GAS and needing (wanting :D) a new 6-string I"d like to keep things to budget!

The Saddle and Pickup are one piece...


You could just move the strings, maybe....
If the Pickup part still works you could just get the white saddles.
Otherwise... Think about $50 or so, maybe more.
I would just get the whole thing.

Contact the MotherShip Repair Shop at 800-552-4681
Have your address and credit card ready.
Also your guitar model number.

Oh... Are you left-handed?
Or is that one of them selfie phone pics?

If you are an experience guitar sorta person, yes.
You would take the strings off, or loosen them a bunch... I would take them off.
The your would reach into the sound hole, unplug the old pickup from the preamp...
Remove the pickup saddle....
Then reverse the process.

Location: British Columbia		Well hopefully I hear back from head office. I still haven't heard back from the guitar shop I first took it to, nor did the Canadian dealer ( B & J in Quebec) get back to me. Thankfully my friend has told me I can keep her 12-string until mine gets fixed!

Location: Katmandu		I would just get a new saddle piece without the pickup from Ovation (OV750122). Costs you 5 bucks each tops.

Location: British Columbia		Oh! I thought it was all one part and I was actually a little stressed thinking would be expensive! This is great..a few days ago I email Ovation head office ... wonder how long they will take getting back to me? Should I just phone? What do you think?

Location: Katmandu		Phone in, and you should receive the spare saddle piece by mail in a couple of days. Replacing the saddle is also just a matter of minutes (unstring the guitar, remove the black knobs fixating the saddle, and replace the white ABS piece itself -- see here).
