Recently watched V1 behind the music about Glen Campbell on Youtube

Pretty interesting early years information.

https://youtu.be/gJkWUfC4PQM

One of the oddities was a passing shot of Glen playiing a Ovation Electric with a Stratocaster type body.

Shown at about 26 mins +/-

Have never heard or seen this type of form factor from Ovation.

Any info on how this came to be?

Maybe it is a custom with an Ultra GS and a Viper/Preacher/Breadwinner neck.

Just guessing.

Or maybe Glen liked the Ovation neck SO much that he had it put on a strat. Hell...I would too

It's not an Ultra GS body.

It's a trick question, right Kentrookie? There really isn't a video, right? What we are seeing is a giant-sized statue for the lobby of the Arkansas capitol building rotunda , and the other guy in the picture is the sculpture artist (who wasn't very guitar-model-savvy) and he's adding the statue's final touches. Or maybe Glen was abducted by aliens in Nevada, and this is the guitar he was holding when the sheriff found him wandering in the desert. Gives a whole new meaning to "mother ship".

(okay, I admit, I have no idea.. but they seem to be as definitive of answers as any of the others so far).

Putting an Ovation neck on a strat body is NOT an easy thing to do. Trust me on this. The Ovation neck joint is much deeper than a strat. Now one could mess with neck angle but that would just be weird (again, trust me on this). The easiest way is to shave down the heel of the Ovation neck. Probably easy to do for some... but I haven't found a way to jig the neck yet to do it... I shimmed the bridge for awhile, but that was just silly.

The pick guard and input jack doesn't resemble a Strat either.

I believe this guitar was built for Glen by Red Rhodes using a Strat neck but had to say what all else. I was told this by the person that owns it now.

Here's a video of it being put to good use.

Bluebird to the rescue... You have no idea how long I was scouring the Internet for any other references to that guitar. It's kinda cool that after 15 years of these forums, and all the years collecting and playing Ovation solid-bodies... and all the research, it's nice to see a "new one" pop up still.

Wayne, Great Link, Thanks .. Very interesting Strat-Ovariation.

If I saw it correctly, Glen has an Ovation strap on his Banjo too. (6 min mark). Love the 12 String Deacon

YouTube then lead to this Video...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Z9nca6fEOc

is Glen playing a Matrix or Applause?

I think that's a Balladeer from the 90's that he's playing. What I find cool is that he makes it sound so good.....

I notice in the Carol Burnett video that the "Stratovation" appears to have a Glen Campbell signature truss rod cover.

I took a Viper neck (thanks Moody!) and mated it to a Korean Celebrity electric and it ended up looking like this:
