I've borrowed a set of nut files to do a bit of work on a mandolin (and maybe a few guitars while I'm at it).

the thinnest file is 0.015" whereas the e strings on the mando are 0.011". WIll this file make the slot too wide? The nut is not bad as it is but I want to lower the slots just a fraction to make it just right.

I usually try to keep the slots as close to the string width as possible.

If it were mine, I wouldn't use a .015" for a .011" string.
