| I've been helping my brother with his early 70s 12 string Pacemaker and seem to have become infected. At 65 years of age, I'm finally going to learn to play the guitar. I want an easy to play 6 string as my first guitar. I've always admired my bro's Ovation's action. I could never understand why someone would try to learn on a cheap instrument where the strings were 3/4" above the fretboard. Sweetwater has a sweet "Cyber Monday" deal on the Celebrity with the funky multiple sound holes and "bunches of grapes" (?) inlays. Suggestions and recommendations? I'm all ears Jim in Maine |

I have owned many Celebrity guitars that were nice.
I have also seen a few that are crap.
eBay is full of "new" Celebrity's with high action.
That said, I have never played a Celebrity CE44, since that is a newer version of the CC44.
Also, Sweetwater has good customer service, and $300 is a good deal.
And this is cheaper than B-stock that are on eBay.
That Reverse Blue Burst looks unnervingly like my Adamas W597T.
And the Reverse Red Burst looks like a guitar that I painted.
Others would say (and have said) that you can find a USA Ovation on eBay for $300...
But that isn't a sure thing, and this does come with a Warranty and support.
And if you don't like it the particular guitar that you receive, you can return it.
Gotta decide soon... so tell us what you did.

Location: Muenster/Germany | What about the wonderful sunburst Elite here on this site? These are very easy to play and the beginner has more fun with a good sound from the first steps on. Look at the fine top wood! The price is a bargain for a guitar like that. |

Hey Michel (what's a Detlef?) — Ummm, I went to the "For Sale" board and am not sure to which posting you're reffing. I did notice you had a nice blue sunburst 1537 for sale ...but it was way too pricey AND it has already sold. Is it the "GAF II = FS 1998 1761-Cherry Burst Standard Balladeer" you're suggesting? That extra $100 + shipping is a big step. NICE guitar. But, has been mentioned, buying new from Sweetwater provides certain protections. My budget is tight. And, it's difficult to justify spending too much as a beginner ...don't really know if I'll wind up being a big chord strummer or finger picker. I am headed "to town" today and plan to roll through the music store. I'm usually in there browsing synths, MIDI controllers and the like ..."shopping guitars" will be a big change. Though, I really like the idea of going "Ovation". My brother's been playing his 12 string Pacemaker since 1971 and I feel like we are an "Ovation Family". Jim |
