Joined: July 2004 Posts: 192 | Been watching a black 1537 on the bay. Auction was due to expire on Saturday. It was 800 bucks starting bid with free shipping. I sent a question to the seller about cigarette smoke smell. They replied no smell. Ok. But now the selller just changed it 900 bucks starting bid with 60 bucks shipping. Is my question (showing interest) and the price increase connected or just a coincidence? Can't say for sure. And I know, the seller can do what they want with their auction. And I probaly would have paid 900+ bucks if that's where we were starting. But geez......don't change the rules of engagenment mid-stream. I have no trust/confidence in the seller now. Guess I'll wait for another one to comeup.
Mods....if this is an inappropriate post.....just trash it.....tx.....

His BIN price has been paid many times for a 1537. Ovations appear to be struggling in the secondary market right now. You should have made a bid at 800 and locked it in. By not doing that, you allowed him to up the ante. I am amazed it didnt sell at 999, when he had listed it before. Rarely do you find any guitars from the 80's in pristine condition...not to mention one of the best acoustics Ovation ever produced...and in black... how often does that happen?

I don't know who said the phrase first, but this, "changing horses in midstream" stuff happens to me all the time, too. Most people I meet think that just because I have a physical disability, I am also stupid, which I'm NOT, and so they try to take advantage of me in many ways, which usually ends up backfiring on them. I just say, "See ya. Wouldn't wanna be ya!" And I move on. My Dad always said,"Some people's kids shouldn't be let out of the house." Then, poof, the internet came along, and we all know what happened after that. Keep your stick on the ice. Mike S. Edited by Michael R. Seguin 2015-11-05 2:26 PM

IMHO the buy it now price is fair enough for that rare black beauty!!! Just look at past sales here and on Fleabay and see what they go for - and I mean the non black ones cause this is the first black 1537 I have seen. Did you ask the question because you also thought the opening price was low and wanted to make sure it wasn't because there was an issue? I agree with OMA - until someone bids I think that the seller can do what ever they want. I have both lost money and made money as a seller on FleaBay. Its a crap shoot, and you are not gonna get rich, the selling fees alone make it very tough to be profitable. Ebay favors the buyer.

All due respect to the new guitars on the way (I want one badly), it's likely we won't see a guitar like that Moosup 1537 for some time, if ever. Edited by Geostorm98 2015-11-05 4:20 PM

I've got great bay feedback as well, but I've never ever changed the auction rules mid stream. To me it's a matter of integrity. But that's just me.

To me it's a matter of integrity. But that's just me. There were no bids and no money changed hands. The seller has the option of changing or cancelling the listing if there's no activity. The seller didn't try to change the terms after you won the item. If I were the seller (and perhaps an OFC member), I'd be very unhappy that you impugned my integrity. -Steve W.

I just highlight the big words and click "search Google" That only works if there is no one making a product with a similar name or description to the word you want to look up, otherwise, your Google results just link to the highest bidder trying to sell you something.
