Location: New Hartford CT | On the Facebook feed it appears Doyle is playing that Viper in New Hartford...? After he and Guild parted ways I heard Ovation supplied him with an Adamas, about a year or so ago.
I can only dream of having a fraction of his skill on the guitar. |

Location: SW Mintsoda | Agreed - Doyle Dykes is a great player, and a fantastic person as well. Another big fan here.
Compared to someone like Tommy Emmanuel, who I also like, Dykes is more melodic and musical - Emmanuel is flashier and shows off his technique (which is immense, no doubt!) more. I can take Emmanuel is doses; I can listen to Dykes all day.
Didn't realize he was no longer playing the Guild... he was a Taylor endorser for a long time; Guild, not so long. Wonder what happened? Was it because Guild couldn't keep up with production of the guitar, therefore let the agreement lapse?
He's played Ovation in the past; would be interesting to see him back in the fold - he'd be a valuable asset moving forward...

Location: Flahdaw | Emmanuel sells more solo performance tickets worldwide than Doyle Dykes, probably due to his "personality". He probably cultivated his personality on stage for that very reason, which is a smart business decision.
I bet the true nature of TE is much more private and low key. I have a Doyle Dykes Taylor guitar, which I love very much. |

Location: SoCal | Dykes' primary 6 string is an Olsen that he got after Guild was sold. Since then he went to the factory and picked up the wood top Adamas he's playing in the above video and an Adamas I 12 string. He likes Ovations and has played them over the years. I don't know that there are plans for it, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was signed as an Ovation endorsee.
We'll see..... |
