I've been rummaging around in the forums and on the web trying to find a comprehensive explanation of Ovation bracing patterns. The whys and whens and differences in approach.  Plenty of diagrams, little explanation, contradictory debate.

Anyone out there have a good resource that ties it all together?

I've heard Moody has them all tattooed on his thigh.

But does he know everything about them, or does he just like cool diagrams?

What is your question?

Yes, they all have differences.
Why? Each bracing pattern has differences in sound and production costs.
Many bracing patterns have their Fans...
Some people like "A" bracing, some like LX, some like Quintad Bracing.

So? What do you want to know?
I was gonna say Ovation Tribute but there isn't much there except a diagram, like Moody's tattoos.

You could go to the Wayback Machine https://archive.org/web/
The look for http://www.ovationguitars.com/
Once you get to https://web.archive.org/web/20071010002822/http://www.ovationguitars...
You can click on a year and look through there.

But generally the Real place to learn that stuff is The OvationFanClub.com

Yes, well, I've been through a lot of the FanClub stuff on bracing. I was looking for something comprehensive rather than piecemeal. A kind of history of bracing in O's through the years and a more nuanced discussion of effects on tone.

No biggie, just for my edification. My 1115 is A-braced, my 1117 looks like VT, my Elite is LX. Not sure what my 2002 Legend 1867 shallow bowl is.

The Wayback Machine link might be usefull...

Ah, well, the Wayback shows the 1115 to be Ovation Fan brace, the 1117 as A, the 1867 as A as well. Shows what I know. At least I got the Elite right. Haha.

1117 started with VT, changed around '81 or so to A

Thanks! I thought that might be the case, but the web archive doesn't go back to the early 70s. My 1117 is a 74.

I think it's discussed some in "The History of Ovation Guitars" book as well.

Thanks for the link. There are quite a few mentions in the history book, yes. Funny, had the book on my shelf but brain fart kept me from opening it and looking in the index. Duh. Too much clean (!) living out in the country. Also looked at your website, Damon. Good stuff.

Cool. It confirms that I have five different guitars with five different bracing schemes.
