Location: Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire | As I searched for some original speakers for my K6100 restoration, I finally found one on E-Bay that was in great shape! It appears the 9702 12" Audient is not too common. Also, when I got the speaker I noticed a subtle difference in the center cone compared to the speakers that were in my cabinet when I got it. Not sure if it was a recone or just a design change by the manufacturer. First, the (clean one) speaker I just bought: The silver center dust cover differs from my (assuming to be original) 9702 speaker in that there is a tapered funnel tube (with vent holes) that raises the silver dome slight above the surface of the paper cone. I've not seen one like this before and wondered if anyone else has seen this? The second speaker (the dirty one) was in my K6100 when I bought it. Pretty nasty from all the mouse crap that it sat in for who knows how long. Appreciate any feedback.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Mine is a 9725 and I can't figure out how to get the front grill off. Any hints?

Mine was attached with screws/nuts from the inside. Look behind the insulation around the edges for the nuts! It then pushed out the front. I replaced the tattered grille cloth on mine and it came out pretty easy.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Yes, I figured it came off from the back, since I couldn't see anything from the front. I won't open it to look. I need to find some new insulation before I open it up again. The original stuff crumbles every time I touch it and makes a big mess. It would have made a good winter project, if we had any winter this year. |

Location: Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire | My grille cloth had already been replaced and they must've used a whole box of staples on the last one. Took me some time to pull all of those out. The Fender grille cloth I had was a bit thicker than the original Ovation cloth so I ended up trimming the sound board on my table saw an extra 16th of an inch all around so it would fit back into the cabinet. It came out pretty nice but still need to find a horn driver and another 9702 speaker this to complete it. I'll post a pic once its all done! |

Location: Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire | Found another 9702 speaker. Looks like a recone but I don't care. Now I just need a horn driver and some info on how the speakers, horn and crossover are wired! Was the power amp output 4, 8, or 16 ohm??? Most ID40 drivers I've seen are 16 ohm so that makes an interesting combo depending on how this all wires together! Any info on the output specs of the amp are needed. Don't want to mismatch and blow it up! |

Location: Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire | I did look but not enough info to confirm the amp output specs! My best guess is that the output of the amp "should" be a nominal 8 ohms. With a 16 ohm horn driver in parallel to (2) 8 ohm speakers wired in series (equals 16 ohms), the sum of all is 8 ohms!! So, I'm going to give that a go as soon as I get a driver. I think I have a lead on a horn driver for a lot less money that those I've seen on E-Bay for crazy money!!! I need to verify the crossover is correct but I'm getting closer! |
