Location: Amity, Pennsylvania | It baffles me that I have not yet joined this forum, and I would like to start with, similarly to Goldy Locks, I find that deep bowls are too deep, shallows are too shallow, and mid depth is just right for me.
For reference my current setup is:
Ovation Celebrity CC247 (6-string, mid depth, single cutaway, offset sound holes, OP24+, black finish)
-->Janglebox
-->Rolls SX21 Crossover
-->Highs to a Motion Sound Pro3T
-->Lows to a Leslie 825 via preamp pedal II
This setup is a bit unorthodox as normally the top and bottom rotors are dependent to each other as they use the same control, but my set up has separate controls for top and bottom creating some interesting (and still useable) effects. I plan to add a Diamond vibrato and a Strymon El Capistan at some point when I have the money to burn, and I also have a Hammond M102a which is the reason I have a Leslie in the 1st place, but thats not all that important.
The problem I have currently is the fact that my 12 string acoustic is not an Ovation, it's a Washburn D-12S-12(not electric/acoustic). At some point I would like to replace the old Washburn with an Ovation but what I want is what I all ready have in my CC247, but with 6 extra strings. In my research I have found only a hand full of models that meet my criteria, which is a mid depth bowl, offset sound holes, and obviously 12 strings. Would prefer black finish and a cutaway, but those aren't deal breakers.
The models I have found are:
CS245 (I can only find these in natural wood finish, and on top of that everyone that pops up lists cracks)
SCE445 (Comes in black which I would prefer, but from what I can tell this is an European model, I'm in US)
Elite 1758 (Anyone know if these came with a cutaway?)
That Mellisa Etheridge thing (Not affording one, sorry)
Considering availability I'm thinking the 1758 is going to be my best bet, but I fear that'll just make me want to replace the old CC247 with an Elite afterwards. Any comments and suggestions are welcome, and yes the Ovation plus a Leslie does equal awesome. |

Just give-in to GAS and go for it.

Location: Amity, Pennsylvania | Over the weekend I found a cc045 w/ hsc for cheap and grabbed it. I was only able to play it unplugged before I bought it and compared to the Washburn it was an upgrade as it has a preamp, round back, and a neck that doesn't fell like the deck of an aircraft carrier. I'll admit it was a bit of a G.A.S. impulse buy and after comparing it to my cc247 it really is poorly built and lackluster plugged in. I always wondered why Celebrities are hated so much but if most of them are built like this cc045 its no wonder. My cc247 is honestly a great guitar despite being Korean built and my impression was that most celebrities were close to quality to mine. The only Korean Ovation I would consider buying at this point would be a cs245 as it's comparable in construction to my cc247 and would make a pair of sorts even though they would have different finishes.
Now that my Celebrity rant is over I'll say that I went digging through the wealth(or lack there of) of information about Ovations and I found that my Adamas Holy Grail pair would be the non-Melissa 1597 & 1598. Not that I'll ever find or afford that, but we all need our Adamas dreams here. Aside from that it's more or less USA Elites for me, though I may get a roundhole if one turns up for cheap enough one day. It is nice that roundhole Ovations are made , but the offset sound holes are IMHO part of the magic of Ovations.

Have you seen an Ovation 6758T?
The 6758T is too much black on black for an Ovation, and I even like black. The 6758LX looked good and I could match it with a 6778LX. I looked for a 6758(no T or LX) but couldn't find one to pair with the 6778 which seemed odd.
Also, does anyone else have an obsession with matched pairs of 6/12 string Ovations? |
