Location: Connecticut | I just got a new-to-me New Hartford made Elite 1778T and I absolutely love it. It sounds and plays very nice.
It's previous owner seems to have removed the saddle shims and filed down the last couple of frets a wee bit. There's a small piece of what appears to be paper wadded up under the high E end of the saddle.The action is fantastic, very low with no buzz. I don't know if the altered frets will ever impact my playing, as for now I'm still learning and kind of suck anyway. Maybe If I ever work my way down the fret board that far, I'll have a different opinion.
The saddle itself, however, is pretty chewed up. I'd like to replace it but I don't know where to find one. Google has failed me in this search. Is there a source for an OEM saddle and shims? If anyone knows, OFC does, right? |

Is it a "Thin-line" skinny saddle? (CP-100)
Or is it a Wide saddle. (OCP-1)
Both are available occasionally.
But if it is a skinny saddle you can use an Artec undersaddle piezo (or other brands) and a separate saddle.
Anyway... Which saddle do you need?

Location: Utah | You can shim with just about anything. The more solid it is the better it will sound. Some folks use cut up credit cards. The original factory shims look like a layer of phenolic from circuit boards. A little slice of wood sanded flat would work.
In the past, the factory service department would send a dozen shims (for free but don't tell anybody) if you contact them. IDK if they still do, but it is easy enough to email them and ask.
A new saddle assembly should be easy enough to get from the service department. Alternatively you could try ebay or lostartvintage. Or, post in the For Sale forum here to see if someone has one available to buy. |

Location: Flahdaw | Personally, if it plays fantastic and sounds great, I wouldn't mess with it. It would be nice to have a replacement saddle hanging around, but I wouldn't put it on til you HAVE to. |

Location: Connecticut | I don't really want to mess with it at all! It's like the previous owner just ran the strings back and forth over the saddle haphazardly and now it has about 3 grooves per string. It looks like crap! |
