Hello all...
I have an Ultra 1528 from the late 80's/early 90's
and I have 2 issues...
1. the sn doesnt match its age...it reflects 1983 which is impossible.
2. I have 3 stress cracks in the laminate on top and it seemed to effect the action...I really want this guitar back to normal b/c I really love this guitar for many reasons (some sentimental)..
What can I do????

Send it back to the mothership for an overhaul. If the cracks are through the top the damage is done and they WILL affect the action depending where they are.

I believe the factory only works on USA models. So sending this one to them is out. Which also explains the s/n issue - the charts only apply to US made Ovations ... the 1528s are Korean.

If you really like that guitar, just watch eBay and buy another one like it. They are pretty plentiful and you can get a real good one for a couple of hundred bucks.

Without pictures it is hard to advise about the action, but my experience is that once it goes on those Korean guitars, you're pretty much done. Time to move on.

If you're really sentimental about that guitar, do what I did - put a tall nut on it and learn to play slide.

I would still at least contact the mothership, and as someone else mentioned... pictures would be helpful. We have some talented folks in the club that may be able to revive it, and the mothership may have some guidance. I have learned long ago to not make assumptions, and always ask. The worst that could happen is they say "sorry, I can't help you." But I wouldn't give up just yet.

I have a Medallion which was the first to forey into the Partially made in Korea, Assembled in USA
lines. If it ever became unplayable, I think I would try to get it fixed.
